Hardee/Cleburne Flag WD#244
This is a reproduction of an 1864 issue “Hardee” flag, for troops in General Patrick Cleburne’s Division of the Army of Tennessee. While most of the Army of Tennesse was issued a new battle flag of the Virginia army style, by General Joe Johnston, General Cleburne and his soldiers demanded to keep their old blue and white “Hardee” flags, Johnston compromised by issuing them new “Hardee” style flags in 1864.
This reproduction is made by N.J. Sekela and is a reproduction of an unidentified flag captured at the battle of Franklin Tennessee in 1864 by Private John Ricksecker of the 104th Ohio Infantry.
Made of wool bunting with a cotton disc (of moon) handstitched in the flags center, the rest is all machines sewn like the original. Measures 29” X 37” and has a flagpole sleeve. (War department # 244)
