#410NS Columbus Depot Jacket "TYPE 1" "Drab Butternut"
Columbus Depot Jacket “Type 1” (a modern designation term) The “Type 1” style has two inside pockets the Type 2 has one outside pocket, otherwise the jackets are basically the same. This jacket was reproduced at my request by N.J. SEKELA. The variated vegetable dyed jean cloth was developed and specially produced for this jacket and also for use in some other items. The collar and cuffs are correctly dyed with indigo dye. This is an excellent reproduction of the most common Army of Tennesse jacket, spanning the time frame of mid -1862 to the very last months of the war.
The jacket will come with “Block I” brass buttons and accurate hand stitching. The color variations that almost appear to be color blocks of different shades is intentional, During the desperate war -time conditions the material often came out of the mills that way. Sekela went through great effort to replicate this feature when having this material made.
I have included two photographs of the Columbus Depot Jacket known after the soldier who wore it, “The Wise Jacket” which is at The Texas Civil War Museum, Fort Worth Texas. The “Wise Jacket” is a “TYPE 2” Jacket, with one outside pocket, but I chose to include it as it is made in similar material.
