This particular shoe is based the standard British army shoe of the period, these were copied by companies such as Issac & Campbell and run through the blockade in the thousands. An unissued pair of these can be seen in the “ECHOES OF GLORY” books. We were fortunate enough to be able to examine, an original pair, we found that the tape was blue and white, and the most important detail was the hobnails were not commercial sedged nails but actually hand cut nails with an uneven top. We have duplicated these details in our interpretation of this Confederate issue shoe.
The original shoe is among artifacts in the New York State Military Museum. We would like to thank them for their patience and continued help in bringing this reproduction to fruition. Made by N.J. Sekela.
IMPORTANT NOTICE*** MARCHING ON ASPHALT OF GRAVEL MAY CAUSE THE NAILS TO BEGIN TO PUSH UP THROUGH THE SOLES. These brogans are made like the originals, and they were not designed with marching on asphalt or gravel.
These have hand cut nails NOT hobnails in the sole as the originals.
Also, possible hard dry sole might have similar effect as other hard surfaces.
We will not replace or refund, if the nails begin to push the sole layers apart after a few events.
